Meet Your Midwives

Savannah Stone LM, CPM

Savannah was born and raised in the Rocky Mountains of Montana. She moved to Portland, OR in 2007 and played around with different career potentials, but nothing seemed to truly fit. In 2009, she was asked to attend the home birth of a close friend as her doula, and it was that experience that cemented her love and calling towards midwifery work.

She initially worked as a doula full-time, but fell in love with midwifery almost immediately. In 2014, she decided to “answer the call” and pursue a career in out-of-hospital midwifery. She enrolled in the midwifery program at Birthingway College of Midwifery in 2014 and began the process towards becoming a competent, skilled and community-centered midwife. Birthingway is a 3-year, MEAC-accredited school specializing in midwifery science. After earning her Bachelor’s degree at Birthingway, she moved to Detroit, MI to complete her clinical training and licensure process. From 2018 to the end of 2021, she was working full-time at Nine Short Months Birth and Community Wellness Center in Southfield, MI.

Today, she is a full-spectrum licensed midwife and certified professional midwife serving communities in Detroit, Metro Detroit and the broader SE Michigan area with Magpie Midwifery LLC. To her, being a midwife is a form of activism and an active practice towards reproductive justice. It’s a labor of love, one of radical advocacy and compassion.

Savannah cares for families wanting to birth at home, but she also provides STI testing, well-person gynecology, labor and postpartum doula care, placenta encapsulation, contraception and fertility counseling, and loss support. Her core value as a midwife is to provide evidence-based and trauma-informed care to individuals regardless of where they fall on the reproductive spectrum, and to implement midwifery as a form of reparations to the community. It is her goal to continue to bring vibrance, empathy and deep reverence to this work.

Midwife

Aaushi

Aaushi started her journey in birth work early 2015 as a birth doula, and then became a birth assistant in 2019. After assisting over 100 births, although she loved being in both of those spaces, she moved on to becoming a midwife in late 2021. Aaushi is enrolled in the midwifery program at SWTC and will be graduating in December 2024.

Aaushi believes that every person is entitled to compassionate, respectful, and holistic care. Understanding that teens, people over the age of 35, BIPOC, and LGBTQ families are all, particularly, at risk within the medical model of care, the main goal for her is to lower those risks with safe midwifery care in Metro-Detroit.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her beautiful children, two kitties and American Bully, traveling to different islands and countries, being by the ocean, reading, fine dining, and learning about different cultures by expanding her global awareness.

Midwife

Emily Kutil

Born and raised in Southern California, Emily completed her midwifery education at Birthingway College’s MEAC accredited midwifery program with clinical training in some of the best birth centers in Portland, Oregon.

After relocating to be near her partner’s home in Detroit, she became a Michigan Licensed Midwife in 2017. She has worked extensively in the birth center and home birth setting since. She is passionate about every family being able to access the birth team and birth location that best supports them. She lives in Southwest Detroit with her husband, two children, and pitbull and uses her personal experience of home and hospital birth to support families through their unique journey.
